Kickstarter Reaches Milestone With $1 Billion In Pledges

Posted on March 03, 2014 by James Conway

The crowdfunding website Kickstarter has reached an important milestone in its four year life span. It has reached $1 billion in pledges and has decided to celebrate with an unique page on the Kickstarter website, which shows some pretty cool stats about the pledged money.

Keep in mind this is "pledged" money, not all of it has been successful. Only $859 million of the $1 billion have gone to successful Kickstarter campaigns.

Gaming related campaigns had the most money pledged to them with $215.75 million, only $189.84 million going to successful campaigns.

Here are some interesting facts from the $1 Billion Milestone page:

  • The $1 billion was pledged from 5,708,578 backers from 224 different countries and territories
  • The United States pledged the most with $663,316,496
  • The day Kickstarter launched only 40 people pledged $1,084 to 7 projects
  • More than half of the $1 billion was pledged in the last 12 months alone.
